That is the big question that I get asked all the time. For me personally, Im not even sure if I have a favourite as I like both products for different reasons. I don’t tend to sit at home of an evening in bright light. I prefer to sit in the dark with just the beautiful glow from a candle or a decorative wax melt burner.
I’ve listed below a few differences between wax melts and candles, both are really down to each individuals personal choice.
1. Wax melts have a longer burn time than candles
Wax melts absorb the heat slower than a candle which means they are able to release the scent into the air without burning the oils. This helps the wax melt continue to release the scent without the fragrance evaporating too quickly. If you burn a candle, the opposite of this happens as the heat from the flame will release a higher temperature which in turn will cause the scent to emanate into the air a lot faster.
2. Wax melts have no harmful chemicals released
A lot of scented candles are known to be made from Paraffin wax, which is derived from petroleum. When the candle is lit, the paraffin wax releases toxic compounds into the air. These are harmful to your health and to the environment.

3. Wax melts can be used without a flame
With wax melts you can either purchase a tea-light or electric warmer. With electric warmers there is no naked flame so a much better and safer option, especially if you have children or pets in the home. Candles have an open flame and have been known to cause many a house fire over the years so opting for an electric wax warmer and wax melts would be the safest option.
3. You can control the scent with wax melts
I love wax melts for this reason as you can have a different scent every day if you wanted as they are so easy to change over. Wax melts come in all shapes and sizes too, so you can alter the scent throw if you wanted a stronger fragrance by adding more wax. With a candle, you have the same scent burner for at least 35 hours.
